'Tasmanian Odyssey was the result of twenty year long passion. Here I have had the most magical times imaginable, life-changing experiences made possible by extraordinary people, accidental eco-warriors and true conservationists who have inadvertently found themselves become dream-makers. I am privileged to count these people as my friends and to share them with our guests.'
— Susie de Carteret, Tasmanian Odyssey Founder
Tasmanian Odyssey, the only comprehensive and dedicated Tasmanian tour operator and travel company in the world, was established by Susie de Carteret to provide travellers with high-quality and responsible holidays for those wishing to appreciate the natural beauty, landscape, wilderness and wildlife in Tasmania.
Every booking you make with Tasmanian Odyssey will help conserve another little piece of land on one of the world's most precious islands, and thus assist in saving another species from possible extinction.
At Tasmanian Odyssey, we are passionate about creating the perfect holiday for everyone and anyone. If you have a dream, we do everything we can to make it happen. If you have yet to discover your dream, we do all we can to help you find it. We strive for 100% happiness and we think we do pretty well.
Judge for yourself with not only our guest feedback but what the accommodation and tour owners say about us too:
"Susie is not only trustworthy and one of the best travel and tourism operators I have had the opportunity to work with, she is dynamic and continually goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure her clients have the best and most authentic travel experiences ever. Her relationship with local businesses and tourism operators is second to none, all who hold Susie in very high regard."
My love affair with Tasmania started one typically (as I was to discover) brilliant, blindingly blue–sky August day in 1998. As a well-travelled 30-year-old and despite my burning curiosity for what lay ahead, I left London for winter on the other side of the world in the name of work. I waved goodbye to friends and family, somewhat reluctantly, on what promised to be the first day of the inevitably late UK summer.
Jumping ahead to the present day, over 22 years and innumerable trips later, Tassie continues to enchant and enthral me as much as it did in the early days, and nothing gives me greater pleasure than giving others the chance to find out why.
We are passionate about ensuring that our business contributes directly to the conservation of Tasmania through our every day actions as well as our annual donation to The Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC).
The TLC aims to protect areas of high conservation values for species which are not adequately protected, and thanks to our guests' support, Tasmanian Odyssey plays an import role in conserving Tassie's natural beauty and wildlife.
Tasmania – one of our last great wilderness frontiers, a thriving life raft for animals and plants, many found nowhere else on earth. It is quite literally the land that got away. Vast swathes are impenetrable, much of it only accessible or known to a few local guides and experts who have roamed it since childhood.
