From people-dodging and wildlife-watching to tech suggestions and time needed to wander the terrain, we've put together some ‘dos and dont’s to ensure you make the most of your Tasmanian Odyssey.

Tasmania will be the adventure of your lifetime, and we have compiled a list of our top Tassie travel tips to help us help you ensure your Tasmanian Odyssey beats your wildest expectations.

• First things first, please do tell us as much as you can about your passions, dreams and interests, no matter how specific or usual they are - you would be amazed who we know and what we can arrange!  

• Do slow down, take your time. Tasmania is bigger than most people imagine, much of it covered by wilderness with a number of winding roads so you should allow as much time as you can—it takes at least two weeks to drive all around the island at a reasonable pace, preferably three.

• Don't try to pack too much into your itinerary. We have 22 years of experience in planning itineraries so you can trust us to work out the perfect pace for you.

• Don't listen to mainlanders - they often know less about Tasmania than you do!

• Do fly into Hobart and out of Launceston, or the other way around if you are time-short.

• Do take the road less travelled. All our hire cars are insured for unsealed roads and Bruny Island but most aren't.

• Don't ever consider driving at night - there are far too many animals on the roads so it is essential to avoid driving at dusk and dawn fo ryour safety and theirs unless absolutely essential.

• Do meet the Locals. Staying in B&Bs or hiring a local guide for a day is a great way to explore.

• Don't meet the tourists.  If you don't want to see another soul once you leave your point of entry, you really don't have to.

• Do book ahead. Accommodation is not plentiful and most places will be fully booked year-round.

• Do think about visiting during the shoulder season. The biggest myth of all is that you should only visit in the summer months. If you want to avoid the tourists, avoid mid December to mid January. Spring, Autumn and even Winter are spectacular with fewer visitors, great wildlife and cheaper rates.

• Do take advantage of home cooking when offered. You will get great meals, great value, and great company.

• Do buy a local Telstra sim card for your phone, ensuring maximum Wi-Fi and phone coverage.

• Don't be afraid to go ‘off the grid’. There are still large parts of Tasmania with no wifi or phone coverage but that is no reason to miss them off your itinerary.

• Do island-hop. Tasmania is an archipelago of 334 islands, each with its own magic, and you can visit at least four in addition to the Tasmanian mainland.
